More Family, Ubon

We both awoke very early—must be delayed jet lag. We have a “junior suite” at the Sri Isan Hotel (sriisanhotel.com). Like our previous accommodations, the Sri Isan is very much tourist class lodging for the budget minded. Our suite is only 950 baht per day.

The junior suite comes with 2 beds, one of which is supposed to be a "full sized."

If you want a desk, you must get a "suite" at the Sri Isan Hotel.

The suites are the only options that include a desk and sofa—there is also a small mini-fridge (partially outfitted with a not-outrageous mini-bar). The entire bathroom is a shower enclosure—the floor is tile, and slopes to a floor drain near the commode. The shower’s water comes from a single faucet feeding a Sharp WH-33 tankless electric water heater—it’s tiny, but does an okay job. Will post photos.

This tankless water heater works very well (highest temperature is about "medium warm").

After breakfast (included with room), we walked outside and cruised the aisles of the Talat Yai market, just cattycorner from the hotel. It caters to locals, with fruit and flowers, fish (mostly fresh water, and most likely farmed), some beef and pork, and sundries. We left with flowers and fruit.

The family started arriving about 10 am, with Sue and 3 “new arrvals.” We met Montien’s only child, an 11 year old daughter “Nata Pisakung, whose nickname is “Get” (after “Princess Grace”). Also, Napaporn, called “Gawk,” (she’s Sue’s youngest daughter). brought her own daughter “Suratana Nat Ubon,” called “Byebua.”

We need a “seating chart” of lineage and nicknames. But, we’ll need footnotes for folks like Montien, formerly known as “Pook,” but now called “Kook.” We were told that she just decided to change her name. Unfortunately, she lost Nata’s father in a motorcycle accident 3 years ago.

The remaining sisters, Lawan, Noi, and sister-in-law Teng quickly followed.

Lots of talking and laughing, then off to lunch.
